What is Hot Wax?
What is Hot Wax? A Beginner's Guide
Hot wax - also called hard wax or stripless wax - is a depilatory wax that's applied warm and removed without fabric strips. As it cools, it hardens around the hairs and is then peeled off in the opposite direction of hair growth. The result: cleaner removal, less skin irritation, and less pain than strip-based soft wax.
How hot wax works
Hot wax beads are melted in a warmer to 65-75°C, applied with a wooden spatula in the direction of hair growth, left to cool for a few seconds, then pulled off briskly. Because hot wax grips the hair rather than the skin, it lifts even short or fine hairs in one pass.
Hot wax vs. soft (strip) wax
- No fabric strips needed - less waste, lower running cost
- Lower working temperature - more comfortable on sensitive areas
- Better on delicate skin - the bikini line, face, underarms
- Reusable on the same area - multiple passes without irritation
Is hot wax safe for sensitive skin?
Yes. Modern hot wax formulas (like our Mae Mae and Plumeria ranges) are hypoallergenic and designed specifically for sensitive areas. The lower application temperature and the way the wax grips the hair instead of the skin make hot wax the recommended choice for the Brazilian, face, and underarm areas.
